DISCONTINUED. (Verified 2/2005) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. The WalkerTalker is a portable direct selection communicator for active persons with speech disabilities. In response to the need for a more hands-free augmentative communication system, this communication board and speech synthesizer unit are housed in a waist belt. The board is removed from its pouch for use and, when keys are activated, the signals are transmitted to the speech output module and spoken. The WalkerTalker comes with one minute of standard speech or two minutes of extended speech, allowing up to 60 words or short phrases. The WalkerTalker with Extended Memory features four minutes of standard speech and eight minutes of extended speech. The vocabulary is coded with Minspeak and the 16-key keyboard pad can be sequenced to produce hundreds of words, phrases, and sentences. Both models include a carrying pouch, a belt, battery charger, 5 overlays, symbol sheet, manuals, instruction book, and video. POWER: Rechargeable batteries. OPTIONS: Blank overlays, clear protector, and a Memory Transfer Interface (see separate entry) for storing vocabulary to either a Apple or IBM compatible computer.
