Talk:About is a direct selection communicator program designed to help structure conversations and initiate original discussions on any topic for persons with speaking disabilities. The program consists of three components (Quick:Chat, Story:Talk and Story:Panel) that are designed to allow the user to fully participate in conversations. With text-to-speech output and digitized voice modes for speaking, the user is able to chat with friends, share ideas at work or tell a story at school with the help of a mouse, keyboard keys or Ke:nx switch-use to activate the function keys. This computer program is constructed for ideal use with PowerBook and desktop computers. Each component program is designed with several features: Quick:Chat offers the user quick access to common communication phrases (i.e. "How are you?"); Story:Panel is the toolbar across the top of Talk:About's layout and offers the user retrieval capabilities (i.e. phrases, ideas etc.) for keeping conversations and stories moving along; Story:Talk is a database designed to maintain bodies of information (up to several pages in length) containing text about events, experiences and opinions. The program also contains a reference manual featuring a collection of commentaries by leading experts in the assistive technology field. COMPATIBILTY: For use on Macintosh computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: 68030 processor or better, System 7, 9 megabytes (MB) of RAM, and 10 MB hard drive space.
