DISCONTINUED. (Verified 11/2008) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. The St. Croix Extendable Railing is a hand rail that facilitates ascending and descending stairs for people with arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson Disease, stroke, degenerative joint disease, and other medical conditions or disabilities that result in decreased ambulatory balance. The rail pivots out from the stair wall to within 22 inches of a fixed handrail on the opposite side, enabling the user to grasp both rails while moving up and down the stairs. A gravity actuated locking system provides strength and stability when the rail is extended or folded and prevents accidental closure. In the folded wall position the rail will not interfere with activities that require the use of the full width of the stairs (i.e. moving furnishings). The rail system requires less than 5 pounds of pressure for opening or closing. SIZES: Various sizes are available depending on length and width of existing stairway. All standard sizes are for stairways without obstructions, but rails can be special ordered for stairways with windows, ledges, etc. WARRANTY: One year.
