DISCONTINUED. (Verified 3/2006) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. OutSPOKEN for Windows Ensemble is a screen reader program designed to support braille output for individuals who are blind or have low vision. Users of this program can choose to have braille output accompanied by speech output, but the program also allows users to work effectively in braille without needing speech. Users can select how output should appear on a refreshable braille display by choosing Grade two or Grade one braille, six or eight-dot braille, word-wrap, layout, text attribute indicators, status cell usage, and braille language tables. This screen reader program works with Microsoft Office 2000 and 97, Outlook 98, Netscape, Internet Explorer, Eudora Pro and Lite, GroupWise 5.5, Quicken, telephony consoles, and other Windows applications. It speaks and shows on a braille display the content of cells in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. Message boxes, warning dialogs and tool tip text are also spoken and displayed. Web pages that include frames can be navigated with an intuitive command set. Content is read with natural pauses and voice inflections, making information intelligible and pleasurable to the user. The user interface is available in English, French, Italian, Spanish, German, Dutch, Portuguese, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Czech and Polish. Users can choose how the program responds to keyboard input, system events, and voice settings from within the program's preferences dialog. Speech and braille output can be enhanced by using the program's Active Areas feature to specify parts of the screen to monitor for event triggers and defining actions to perform when these triggers occur. An English-speaking installer guides the user through the installation process. A Lernout & Hauspie speech synthesizer is included that can speak US and UK English, German, French, Italian, Japanese, Dutch and Spanish. The Microsoft Speech Engine is also included. COMPATIBILITY: For use with IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Windows 95/98; compatible with most braille displays and speech synthesizers.
