--- "DO IT YOURSELF" ENTRY ------- PURPOSE: To enable a student to operate a battery-operated toy or battery-operated appliance using a single switch. Some student prefer the textured surface of the Nerf ball, and it requires only gross movements of the arm or hand to activate it.

MATERIALS USED: A switch, such as a GC Electronics Snap Action (Momentary) Switch, part number 35-838, Single Pole, Double Throw, 5 Amps, 250 Volts AC, 24 Ga. Speaker wire, 30 inches long, ¼-inch plug (male jack), round piece of form board or heavy cardboard, 4-inch in diameter, 4-inch Nerf Ball.

TOOLS: Electrical tape, sharp knife, scissors, soldering gun, glue.

PREPPARATION:
1.Cut a Nerf ball in half.
2.Scrape off ½-inch of insulation off of each of the four ends of the speaker wire. (The speaker wire splits at each end into 2 sections-scrape off all 4 speakers.)
3. Using a soldering gun solder the two sections of one end of speaker wire onto the first two metal extensions which extender the switch and solder the two sections of the other end of the speaker wire onto the ¼-inch plug.
4. Scoop out the center of one of the Nerf ball halves, leaving approximately 1-inch of Nerf ball remaining around the edges f the hollow. (Scoop out enough so it only takes a little touch of the Nerf ball to turn on the switch.)
5.Glue the scooped out Nerf ball over the switch on the piece of board.
