DISCONTINUED. (Verified 2/96) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. The Gentsch Transfer Board was designed to assist wheelchair users transfer with greater ease from chair to wheelchair, wheelchair to car, bed to wheelchair, etc. Designed in part by a quadriplegic, Henry "Hank" Gentsch, the board was intended to provide a transfer system that would allow persons with disabilities to be more independent and would enable less upper body strength to be needed for lateral transfers. The system requires only resting one end of the board on the user's seat, the other end on the desired target seat, then scooting across the board. MATERIALS: Made of imported Baltic Birch Plywood, which minimizes warping and splintering while remaining strong and lightweight. Each board is hand-finished with rounded edges and tapered ends. The boards have a clear finish coating that resists water and soil. SIZES: The transfer board comes in a variety of shapes and sizes; some are rectangular, some have built-in handles on one or both ends, and some have a corner cut out for specific positioning needs. Custom shapes are available. DIMENSIONS: Basic measurements are 12 by 30 inches, 11 by 27 inches, 8 by 28 inches, or 8 by 24 inches. Specific measurements will vary depending on configuration. WEIGHT: Approximately 2 to 3 pounds, depending on size and configuration.
