DISCONTINUED. (Verified 3/2006) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. ALVA Delphi Multimedia 440 and ALVA Delphi Multimedia 480 are refreshable braille displays designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. The ALVA Delphi Multimedia 440 and ALVA Delphi Multimedia 480 are designed to work in combination with a screen reader program (not included) to provide fully-customizable, optimal interaction between braille and speech output, so as to provide full access to even the most complicated graphic screens. ALVA Delphi Multimedia 440 has 40 reading cells representing 40 braille characters plus three status cells providing information on the cursor location and screen focus. The ALVA Delphi Multimedia 480 has 80 reading cells and five status cells. Both have Double Touch Cursors (DTC) providing control over Windows applications, four navigation keys, and three operating keys. A computer keyboard can be placed on top of the braille display. The status cells provide helpful information when using screen reader programs such as OutSPOKEN Ensemble or JAWS (see separate entries). When OutSPOKEN Ensemble is used, the Double Touch Cursor functionality is built-in, making it unnecessary to define its function or to set macros. The user can receive information about text attributes when needed by pressing a DTC, rather than receiving continuous readout. Additionally, the DTC above the status cells can be used to receive more information about the contents in those cells. When using JAWS, the DTC provides information about the focus position and text font attributes. And together with either outSPOKEN Ensemble or JAWS, the Double Touch Cursors can be used to simulate right mouse clicks in a Windows environment, allowing for easy and efficient editing. Both displays come with parallel and serial cables; a combination backpack/carrying case; two keyboard supports; headphones; a power adapter; standard braille ABT DOS software and Windows drivers; Jaws scripts for DTC support; a manual in braille, in print, and on diskette; and an ABT DOS software manual on diskette. COMPATIBILITY: For use with IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: MS-DOS, Windows 3.11/95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP, or Unix operating system; OutSPOKEN, Jaws, WindowEyes, HAL, Protalk, SWB, Visionbraille or other screen reader software.
