ALVA Braille Terminals are braille displays designed to provide access to MS-DOS compatible computers for braille readers, using advanced and durable 6-dot and 8-dot braille cell technology. These braille devices may be used in most environments including MS-WINDOWS, OS/2, UNIX, and terminal emulation. Four models are available: 23 & 43 cell portable models, and 43 & 83 cell desktop models. Each unit includes 20, 40, or 80 column reading windows; 3 status cells for instant monitoring of system cursor location, braille window location, and screen attributes; automated cursor routing; parallel interface; built-in parallel printer port; built-in external keypad port; software on 3.5 and 5.25 inch discs; manuals in print, braille, and on disc; and Grade II braille translation with AutoBraille from KANSYS (see separate entry). CURSOR CONTROLS: Tracks two separate cursors, switches between cursors being tracked; tracks any software cursor or attribute; tracks any ASCII symbol or color as a cursor; patented ALVA touch cursor routes the application cursor to any cell within the reading window. STATUS CELLS: The three additional status cells are always available to the user. They provide feedback on the row position of the application or DOS cursor; position of the braille line on the computer screen; the cursor column number; and screen attributes for the line being displayed. There are ten user-definable, 1-button access jump windows that provide access to any location on the screen. Ten display partitioning options for customizing display are available on the ALVA 83. OPTIONS: MS- WINDOWS access using SLIMWARE Window Bridge; OS/2 access with IBM Screen Reader/2; external function keypad for ALVA program control; and a carrying case for the desktop models. POWER: Rechargeable, nickel cadmium (NiCd) on the portable units; 110 Volt. WARRANTY: 12 months from date of purchase on parts and service. A 12-month service contract is available on proprietary products after the 12-month warranty has expired.
